The weekend featured the March Monthly Medal, sponsored as ever by the Swans Nest at Exminster. Highlight of the day was a hole in one by Mitch Davidson on the 111 yard 14th hole. This was a first ace by Mitch who has been playing golf on a regular basis for 5 years and currently plays off a handicap of 11. The full result was: division 1 – 1 Mitch Davidson (74 – 11) 63, 2 Keith Lovelock (78 – 15) 63, 3 Andrew Vickery (78 – 14) 64. Division 2 – 1 Peter Woodger (83 – 20) 63, 2 Steve Ankers (83 – 19) 64, 3 Roy Cox (86 – 20) 66. Division 3 – 1 Mike Wilde (87 – 25) 62, 2 Paul Warren (91 – 27) 64, 3 Phil Barrett (90 – 24) 66. A Texas Scramble medal occupied the minds of members for the latest midweek competition. Played off 1/10 combined handicap the result was as close as ever with 0.4 separating the 3 top teams. Martin Read, Alan Baxendale, Steve Christopher & Paul Collings won with net 57.5 from Peter Hatch, Glen Deacon, Steve Ebdon & Allan Vincent (57.7) and Chris Hazelwood, Cedric Chapple, Graham Bulford & Terry Harrison (57.9). A Greensomes competition for the seniors section resulted in a win for Colin Bramley & Martin Kerrane with 45 points. Brian Ridgeway & Austin Keates were second with 43 points on countback from Martin Bagg & Malcolm Heale. |

LATEST NEWS FROM FINGLE GLEN GOLF CLUB Congratulations to our ladies!!! The ladies section beat the ladies of Teign Valley 3 ½ : 1 ½ in round 2 of the Mail on Sunday competition, thanks to fine wins from Anne Woodger (2 up), Ann Hazelwood (5 & 3) and Michelle Underwood (4 & 2) and a drawn game from Jane Lee. They now progress to the third round. Roger Anniss won division 1 of the seniors section March Stableford with 42 points ahead of Brian Ridgeway, Ron Bellamy & Terry Wood with 40 points each. Division 2 was won by David Flint with 42 points from Tony Dodd, Allan Vincent & Dave Cardy with 36 points each. The well-supported midweek club competition saw Andy Rogers win division 1 with 41 excellent points, followed by Terry Webster (40) & Paul Collings (38). In division 2 Ken Greedy beat Brian Donald on countback after each had returned 41 points, with Steve Ebdon completing the line-up with 37 points. The top score of the day came in division 3 where Terry Thorne carded a massive 44 points, whilst a more modest 38 points from Roy Cox & 36 points from Geoff Baker also earned them prize vouchers. The weekend competition was also in Stableford format. Luke Burchell won division 1 on countback from Keith Lovelock after each had returned 41 points, Colin Harrison filling third spot just 1 point behind. 41 points also secured division 2 for Bob Dyment, with Mark Spry-Phare (40) & Adrian Blake (39) also in the prize list. The performance of the day however was the 47 points from Peter Denning in division 3 followed by Phil Barrett (39) & Simon Cordery (38). The week concluded with a mixed betterball competition which saw the pair of Sam Brooks and Andy Rogers come out on top with an excellent 44 points. Michelle Underwood and Oliver Cowl were just pipped into second with a fine 43 points. 38 points was enough to secure both Donna Pearce and Paul Stevens and Adrian and Kate Blake to finish amongst the prizes finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. |

The midweek club competition was in Stableford format played in atrocious weather conditions with only 20 players taking to the course. As a result only one division was contested with Chris Pope ‘jnr’ taking top spot on countback from Paul Collings, both carding 37 points. Chris Church & Chris Hazelwood completed the prize winners each scoring 35. The week concluded with a Texas scramble medal off 1/10 combined handicap. The clear winners were the team of Andy Rogers, Sandy & James Urquhart & Sam Hooper who carded net 52. Colin & Terry Harrison, Roy Cox & Nigel Hoskins were second with 53.6 & Simon Cordery, Shaun Heagarty, Martin Hobbs & Mike Follett 3rd on 55.5. The seniors played a Betterball Stableford for their latest competition. Colin Hatherly & Peter Tregenna won with 48 points, with Peter Trott & David Flint (46) & Dave Farnell & Ron Bellamy (46) also in the prizes. |

This week’s midweek competition saw the return of heavy rain and wet underfoot conditions. Players in division 1 were not put off however, with Alan Baxendale carding a superb 44 points resulting in 1st place and a handicap cut! Keith Barzey hot on his heals came in 2nd with an excellent 43 points ahead of Martin Read and Oliver Cowl who completed the list of prize winners on 39 points each. Roger McAndrews came out on top in division 2 with 40 points, ahead of John Spiller on 39, Guy Hoskins (38) and David Alford (34). Rain & sleet forced the weekend Stableford onto temporary winter greens & decimated the field. The conditions must however have suited Steve Ebdon who carded 41 points over the 17 available holes at the top of division 1. Mark Spry-Phare (39) & Andy Skinner (38) completed the divisional line-up. Allan Vincent won division 2 with 40 points followed by Mark Welland (39) & Steve Taylor (39). The seniors section managed to complete their February monthly medal. Brian Ridgeway won with (78 – 13) net 65, followed by Terry Cook (88 – 22) 66, Bob Feather (85 – 18) 67 & Tony King (80 – 13) 67. |

The latest midweek competition resulted in a division 1 victory for Steve Ebdon with 42 points, closely pursued by Alan Baxendale (41), Danny Hoskins (39) & Martin Read (39). The runaway division 2 winner was Peter Miliffe with 41 points, comfortably clear of the opposition Brian Donald, Geoff Baker & Terry Thorne who carded 34 points each. Saturdays Medalford competition was greeted by overnight frost resulting in temporary greens for the first 8 holes. Adrian Blake won division 1 with a net 11 (5 under), beating Mitch Davidson on better back 6 and Terry Webster on 12. Mark Spry Phare led the way in division 2 beating Brian Donald on a better back 3, both players carding an excellent net 10. Steve Ebdon came third with 11. Nigel Hoskins topped the division 3 players with net 15, just ahead of Colin Stamp and Simon Cordery on 17. With just 2 weeks to go to the close of the winter season the winner of the ladies Wednesday winter league is already decided with Anne Woodger home and dry on 26 points. Sally Baker is well placed for second place having 14 points in the bag, although Bernadette Maynard & Pat Greenfield with 12 points could challenge for this place and Thea Durbin, Angela Hubble & Molly Hutchings on 11 points each are not out of the hunt. |

PALAIRET MEMORIAL TROPHY
FINGLE GLEN have won the Devon County Palairet Memorial Trophy for the second time in three years. At the finals of this prestigious competition we beat Yelverton 4 1/2 : 1/2 in the morning semi-final before moving on to beat Portmore 4 : 1 in the afternoon.
The 2010 season opens for us in Round 1 on May 2nd when we face Tavistock, a very strong outfit and a real challenge for our lads. The match will be staged at Teignmouth golf club.
